A delegation from the Politeknik Maritim Negeri Indonesia (PoliMARIN) in Semarang, headed by Director Sri Tutie Rahayu, attended the recent 30th Anniversary Dinner and 2013 Graduation ceremony in Malmö. The delegation had previously visited WMU in July and returned to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Academic Cooperation. The signing took place on Monday, 25 November.
The agreement enables linkages in the field of maritime affairs, broadly defined to include maritime safety, security, and marine environmental management. The agreement calls for the development of academic exchange programs, including the exchange of university publications, treatises, and research materials, as well as the opportunity for exchange of faculty members on a short term basis. In addition, the MoU encourages collaboration on joint research projects.
Under the five-year agreement, WMU commits to providing participant places for up to four academically qualified faculty members, funded by PoliMARIN, to participate in the Malmö M.Sc. program, with the possibility of additional candidates for the Ph.D. program.
